Volunteer or Class Recommendations

topic posted Mon, April 9, 2007 - 4:56 PM by  Unsubscribed
Hey all,

I'm interested in getting involved somehow with green building. I've been a woodworker for a number of years now. I browsed around on the internet and looked for courses in the Bay Area that might help me get involved in such an important and growing field. Unfortunately I couldn't find anything being offered. Most of the courses were for full-on builders, architects, etc. I'm wondering if anybody knows of a good way to get involved. I'm interested in anything from volunteer work, to classes, to one on one mentor training. If anybody has any advice it would be greatly appreciated. Write me a message. I'm not on tribe all that often.

Thanks so much,
Joe

    Joe,

If you have experience working with wood, I would suggest exploring sources for minimally processed sustainable, reusable and recycled wood materials as well as playing with designs using such materials to make products for the emerging green building industries.

Oddly enough, the last issue of Popular Mechanics had an interesting article about illegal timber harvesting and international certification boards for sustainable timber.

Also, check out Merritt College in Oakland, they have some interesting Green building workshops, classes and vocational certificates.

    Hope that helps...
